Kwanda

Making Communities Look Better, Work Better and Feel Better

After todays episode of Kwanda (Perfeville) there are two things that kept me thinking.
One is how do we build an environment that encourages good and positive behavior in individuals, families and in communities. Watching this Kwanda episode, it got me thining about how the Kwanda Programmes arrive at particularly critical times in our communities. Times when things are so bad and people live through very poisoned environments in which ordinarily an average youth has to unlearn so much wrong before growing to "do the right things" . Recently the youth in Kwakwatsi told me that in term of their community set up, people their age are much more likely to be involved such things such as abusing alcohol than that they would become the sort of agents of change that Kwanda has come to create of them. Kwanda is INDEED CRITICAL.

The Perfeville team also taught me quiete powerfully that the depths of despair and negativity that have come to characterise our environments, necessitate that as we seek to lift ourselves out of these problems, we must also have the capacity to forgive, give hope and assistance and to provide another chance to those that fall by the way side. I think this is very important.

Thinkin about this, and looking at the young men smoking drugs out of broken bottles on the visuals I wondered how communities can be mobilised to give even them a transforming hope to and be given another chance to make their communities better.
