I am a member and a DIRECTOR of a non Gorvenmental orgarnisation(NGO), so my problem is we have been struggling with recruiting people to join our movement. If there is something you can help with please help, your advice on how we can attract and interact with our community will help a lot
What does your organisation do? One way to get buy in from the community you serve is to invite all the stakeholders for a discussion on an issue that you are all concerned about. For example, let's say one of the issues your organisation deals with is high HIV infection rates in the community. Who would be concerned?
- The traditional leaders
- other forms of community leaders
-religious leaders from all the churches in the area
- youth leaders
- leaders from women's groups
-ordinary citizens.
Define a topic that you would like to hold a dialogue on based on the issue of concern. Ask someone who is very well respected in the community to be chairman. Invite representatives from each of your stakeholders to present their views on the issue, as well as possible solutions.
The dialogue will help you get a better understanding of how your stakeholders feel about the issue, and what they would like to do to address it. From the dialogue, you will also get a view of areas of possible strategic partnership. And since everyone will own the process, they will feel more inclined to support activities that are related to it.
I hope this will help you to get started. I also hope that other Kwanda social network members will join in the discussion and also offer their comments and advice.
